Patek Philippe Ref 5205G
In keeping with the formal, dress watch aesthetic, the entire case presents a high degree of polish. This includes the unique skeletonized lugs with their exaggerated downward curves. This makes the replica watch quite shiny. Add to that the striking blue dial and you have a real head-turner. This is great if you like that kind of attention, but less desirable if you prefer something a little more under the radar.
There is no doubt that the rich gradient blue color of the dial is the main attraction of Ref 5205. Though I must admit, I’m also rather partial to the lacquered black dial/rose gold case combination. The blue sunburst radiates out from the center and fades to black at the periphery. Thanks to the Nautilus and other models, Patek Philippe is known for its graduated dials, and the Ref 5205 continues this proud tradition but takes it up a notch.
Although somewhat familiar, the dial layout is also unique to Ref 5205. The upper half of the dial features three windows for displaying the annual calendar. The day, date, and month are displayed in an easy-to-read and intuitive format. In the lower half, the subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock has a 24-hour indicator and a moon phase display. The central time display shows the hours and minutes with dauphine-shaped hands. A long one with a running second hand.
Unusually, on the blue dial version, the hands are luminous for night reading. This is not the case with the rose gold versions, which are designed as more formal dress watches. This again reflects replica Patek Philippe‘s desire to make the blue-dialed Ref 5205 more modern. The oversized gold bar markers indicate the hours.
Inside is the self-winding Calibre 324 S QA LU 24H/206. This is the same movement like the one used in the first Ref 5205. It consists of 356 components, including Patek’s patented Gyromax balance wheel and Spiromax hairspring. The movement can be seen through the sapphire caseback and is quite beautiful. The central rotor in 21-carat yellow gold is particularly eye-catching. It runs at 28,000 revolutions per hour and offers a maximum power reserve of 45 hours. By modern standards, this could do with some improvement. As you might expect, the finishing meets the brand’s exacting standards. And of course, the movement is proudly stamped with the Patek Philippe seal.
The suggested retail price for the Patek Philippe Ref 5205G is $55,800. Getting one from your authorized retailer can be a bit tricky. Patek Philippe doesn’t produce many of them each year, and they have quite sought after. As such, it may take some investment in connections to qualify for an allocation. (It is also known as spending money on other replica Rolex watches you don’t necessarily want.) With the rose gold version set to drop out of the catalog, you can bet demand for the blue dial will increase.
There is also a secondary market option, where prices are still reasonable (for now). For Ref 5205G, pricing tends to range from $55,000 to $60,000. For now, the rose gold version is still slightly underpriced, but don’t expect that to last. There are rumors that the Patek Philippe will be discontinued in January ’22. We all know what will happen to the price in that case.
